Ubisoft has just announced their newest title, a first-person-shooter, free to play, battle royale game called Hyper Scape. The new sci-fi battle royale is set in a virtual world of the same name, 99 players will descend onto the map of Neo-Arcadia, they can be sent on a solo mission, or team up with three players.
Speed and verticality are crucial in the streets, courtyards, and multi-story buildings of Hyper Scape, and you’ll have to stay on your toes and make smart use of your weapons and unique abilities.
These abilities, called Hacks, can dramatically alter your play-style by allowing you to do things like teleport; turn invisible; heal yourself and your allies; leap into the air to come crashing down on enemies; and so much more.
As matches progress, you’ll upgrade your weapons and Hacks by picking up duplicate copies and fusing them into more powerful iterations.
Death does not mean game over, players eliminated becomes ‘Echoes’, they are active participants who can still move throughout the map to mark enemies weapons and survival spots for their alive teammates. If a player defeats an enemy, they will create a ‘Restore Point’ at the location where the enemy was beaten.
Restore Points will allow surviving players to bring back a fallen teammate. Restore Points will remain visible for all surviving players, this means that there will be dozens of restore points throughout the map, as the match goes through.
Players who manage to survive long enough to be one of the last men standing, they will go through the ‘Showdown’ phase, at this point ‘Crowns’ will spawn somewhere on the map. A winner will be decided by two criteria: A player who defeats all other players, or the one who capture the crown and hold onto it for 45 seconds. However, the crown holding player will reveal its location to all the players in the map.
Senior Producer Graeme Jennings shared some of the design decision taken for this new battle royale game:
We built Hyper Scape around three key pillars: The first one is the urban setting and verticality. We really wanted to build a playground that felt different than any other battle royale.
Second is the flavor, and how we mix up the rules. So you have the weapons you can find and fuse. If you have a shotgun and find another shotgun, you can fuse them and improve it. On top of that, we have the Hacks. We wanted to give players the ability to build the playstyle they like.
