New details were recently released for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Among these details, it has been revealed that the upcoming game will primarily be in first person perspective, with exceptions being during cutscenes and traversing through environments being in third-person. Additionally, as seen in the recently released gameplay trailer, Harrison Ford’s likeness will be used for the modeling of Indiana Jones, but the character will be voiced by Troy Baker (Joel the Last of Us, Kanji Persona 4, Ryu Ninja Gaiden 3). Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will launch sometime in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. It will also launch day one for Xbox Game Pass.
Senior narrative designer Edward Curtis-Sivess commented on the decision to make the game first-person:
“We have the opportunity to tell a new Indiana Jones story for a modern gaming audience. Our game is all about putting you in Indy’s shoes, letting you see and feel what he sees and feels. For us at MachineGames, we do that best through first-person. It’s the ideal perspective to bring you into the rich, exciting, and interactive world we’ve built. We believe that being up close and personal to the adventure is key, making each action feel like your own.”
MachinesGames’ co-founder and lead game designer Jerk Gustafsson commented on the actor’s involvement saying:
“He really brings forward that charm and sense of humor in such a good way. He’s also a very big Indiana Jones fan, which is super cool. So he’s also very invested in the game.”
“He’s not only a very good actor, he also contributes quite a lot to actually make the game better.
When we go through with those, there’s a lot of adjustments and changes, not only to the script itself, but also to how we set up the scenes, how we set up the cameras. Troy is much more a part of the development team than we usually see just because he’s in those blocking sessions.”
