IO Interactive recently talked with GamesIndustry.Biz about the establishment of a third team to produce a new IP that is very different for the studio. The new game is being produced under the name Project Dragon, insiders claim that it’s too soon to share gameplay details as the final product may vary a lot from what’s being designed right now.
“We have a very humble goal, we want to be the most desirable game developer in Europe by 2024. Said Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive. “It might be a very high goal to aim towards, but we’ve been through fire and brimstone and we’ve just grown stronger and stronger from that. I believe we have the will, the culture, the people and drive to go for it.”
On that day, Abrak revealed that IO’s next big step is to take start self-publishing and prepare to publish games from others developers.
“This is something that’s in motion, and it’s very likely that IO will be publishing not only our own games, but other people’s games in the future, as well,” Abrak said. “It was just a handful of years ago where this was unthinkable, where it was more just a few big publishers. Things are changing. That still works. I think the big publishers have a role to play going forward. I’ll be open and say it’s very likely IO will have one of our games published by someone else. That’s very possible.”
Eurogamer also affirms to have heard something from the IO’s Project Dragon, but they can also verify that the game is at an early phase of production and there is not much to be revealed at the moment.
At the moment of publishing, IO Interactive has not released an official statement about the new project. The Swedish studio is currently producing the Deadly Sins DLC for Hitman 3 and Project 007, a new James Bond game.
