Jason Ronald Acknowledges Xbox Series X|S Issues

Xbox Series X|S is without doubt two fantastic pieces of hardware, however, there are big issues that are keeping the console from having a perfect score for most players. Xbox’s Jason Ronald has acknowledged the issues and has reassured fans that the team at Xbox is working hard to offer the best next-gen gaming experience.

Jason Ronald, who is Xbox’s Director of Program Management was a special guest in Major Nelson’s Podcast referred to the sensitive topic for Xbox, the performance gap between Xbox Series X|S and how in some games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla running better on PS5 when compared to the Series X as reported by Digital Foundry.

“There’s different kinds of issues that can come up as developers are starting to learn and take advantage of this platform,” … “In some cases, they’re just simply bugs in the titles—and we’ve partnered very closely with them, and the developers will go in and fix those bugs because they’re just as committed to delivering that premium experience as we are. In other cases, it’s learning how to use this next-generation platform.”

Xbox’s design of having two unique consoles may be backfiring at the moment, the Xbox Series S features a completely different RAM approach, and the CPU is slightly underclocked when compared to Series X. This may be a massive hassle for developers, especially when they are producing a game like Cyberpunk 2077, that will launch on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and streaming platforms.

Ronald can only say that Xbox is “aware of performance issues in a handful of optimized titles” and promises “minor bug fixes” from Xbox platform developers and game studios.

Is important to mention that Xbox Series X|S has been criticized for its complicated architecture, some developers even went as far as to affirm that Xbox is only faster on paper. Series S has only caused trouble for developers as the small console is even more complicated with a significantly slower RAM.

Ronald also talked about the “Quick Resume” feature of Xbox’s next-gen consoles. The technique matched with Xbox Velocity Architecture allows users to “ seamlessly switch between multiple titles and resume instantly from where you last left off.” However, the feature has been missing for most next-gen titles.

“As we mentioned prior to launch,” … “as some of these launch games were coming in, we identified some bugs in Quick Resume with some of these new, optimized titles, and we made the decision to actually disable Quick Resume for some of these titles because we want to make sure that players have that best-in-class experience.”
