Sony is going to miss one of its loyal managers after nearly 35 years of working experience within the Japanese company. Kaz Hirai, Sony’s former president and CEO, has announced that he will retire from the company on June 18.
Kaz Hirai started his career in gaming industry as of 1995, getting hired for Sony’s computer and video game division in America. One year later he was stepped up to executive vice president and by the release of PS2 in 2000, Hirai’s successful days began to appear with achieving high profits and managing to continue this progressive policy during 6th generation of gaming consoles. Hirai’s promotion lasts continuously until 2012 that he was appointed as president and CEO of Sony. Six years later, in February 2018, it was announced that Hirai will step down and finally today, Hirai unveiled his plan to retire from Sony on June 18th. Here you can read the official statement, wrote by Kaz Hirai:
Since passing the baton of CEO to Yoshida-san last April, as Chairman of Sony, I have had the opportunity to both ensure a smooth transition and provide support to Sony’s management, I am confident that everyone at Sony is fully aligned under Yoshida-san’s strong leadership, and are ready to build an even brighter future for Sony. As such, I have decided to depart from Sony, which has been a part of my life for the past 35 years. I would like to extend my warmest gratitude to all our employees and stakeholders who have supported me throughout this journey.
Although Hirai retires from his executive roles at Sony, he will aid the company as an adviser.
