CEO of Polyphony Digital, professional racing driver and designer of Gran Turismo Kazunori Yamauchi has recently stated that he is mor interested to achieve the highest frames-per-second possible for Gran Turismo.
Kazunori Yamauchi took part in a round-table discussion in Australia, he shared his opinion on what should Polyphony Digital follow in terms of graphics for futures updates of the racing saga.
“I think, display resolution-wise, 4K resolution is enough.”… “Rather than a spatial resolution that you’re talking about, I’m more interested in the advancements we can make in terms of the time resolution. In terms of frames per second, rather than staying at 60 fps, I’m more interested in raising it to 120 fps or even 240 fps. I think that’s what’s going to be changing the experience from here on forward.”
It’s worth mentioning that it’s very likely that Gran Turismo 7 or Gran Turismo Sport 2 won’t come anytime soon, Polyphony Digital tends to slowly create cars with the highest amount of details possible, just the creation of a single vehicle can take months. Considering this, Gran Turismo Sports might be available for the PS5, the more powerful hardware of the next generation console might greatly improve the frame-rates of the game and the overall experience in the game.
Back in January, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan talked about the upcoming PS5 features that will differentiate them from a just more powerful hardare. Talking about the DualShock 5’s haptic feedback and 3D Audio the executive suggested that he tried the game on the PS5.
“I actually tried it myself,” said Ryan, “in a test version of Gran Turismo Sport. I was very surprised by the gameplay feel that was very different compared to the current DualShock 4.”
The latest installment on the racing simulator is Gran Turismo Sport, released with a fraction of the cars that were available at launch at previous titles, the game also received backlash from hardcore fans for lacking the beloved “Simulation Mode”.
In reality, Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital took a different approach in the making of the PS4 game. It’s all about competitive racing, Gran Turismo Sport features two championships held simultaneously throughout the year: the Nations Cup, where players represent their country, and the Manufacturers Cup, where players represent their favorite car manufacturer. The FIA manages the series directly as they would with any of their other race series. The winners of the championships are honored at the FIA’s annual prize-giving ceremony in Paris.
