Developer Ember Labs has announced that their upcoming game Kena: Bridge of Spirits will be delayed into September, no longer meeting their previous release date of August 24th. This decision was made to give the team more time to “polish the game across all platforms,” and that this decision was “critical to ensuring the best experience possible.”
The team took to Twitter to inform fans of this decision.
This is not the first delay the game has experienced over the course of its development either. As for this year, this is just one more delay in a long list of games being pushed back for several reasons. While not stated in their official response it would not be surprising if this, like many other delays, was partially in response to Covid-19 in some way. At least in the case of Kena, we will not have to wait until 2022, with the delay only holding the game back a month.
Their official website says about the game:
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a story-driven action-adventure set in a charming world rich with exploration and fast-paced combat. Players find and grow a team of tiny spirit companions called the Rot, enhancing their abilities and creating new ways to manipulate the environment.
And it describes Kena as:
A young Spirit Guide, travels to an abandoned village in search of the sacred mountain shrine. She struggles to uncover the secrets of this forgotten community hidden in an overgrown forest where wandering spirits are trapped.
The beneficial side effect of this delay is that the game will be clear of the late August influx of games that are slated, which included Psychonauts 2 and No More Heros 3. Kena: Bridge of Spirits is now slated to release on September 21, 2021. It will be available for the PC, PlayStation 4, as well as PlayStation 5.
