During the reveal of The King of Fighters XV, SNK confirmed that the game is being produced keeping the series’ fast-paced gameplay, while also adding elements to make it more exciting.
We’re able to do things now for both sound and visuals that were impossible back when developing XIV, so we’re taking our time making sure each element is refined. Right now, we’re focusing on brushing up features and optimizing the game. Though I expect some obstacles to get in our way, we’re planning to have it ready to ship this year.”
The new King of Fighters XV will also introduce rollback netcode as it offers a simple solution to online lag. Previous iterations in the series used a delay-based netcode.
The King of Fighters XV is due out in 2021, SNK has not revealed the supported platforms, but it’s expected to be released on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. A version for Xbox One and PS4 could be supported as the game is being developed with Unreal Engine 4.
