Square Enix has just revealed that they have started development on Kingdom Hearts 4 at the 20th Anniversary event for the series in Tokyo. The developer released a trailer, which also revealed Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link for iOS/Android and the final chapter of Kingdom Hearts Dark Road.
There was no release date or release window given for Kingdom Hearts 4, but they did show off some gameplay footage. The trailer starts out by saying it is the Lost Master Arc. Footage begins in a forest, then Sora is shown waking up on a couch in an apartment to the sound of a doorbell. When he opens the door, he is greeted by Strelitzia, a character that was first introduced in Kingdom Hearts Union χ. She informs him that he has been asleep since he arrived in that world seven days ago, and informs him that the place where he is now is called Quadratum. The cutscene continues as a massive monster that resembles a heartless materializes in the city. Sora is shown running towards it, then pulls out his keyblade and starts to parkour through the city. He swings around poles, runs up walls, and even uses his keyblade as a grappling hook.
The end of the trailer shows Donald Duck and Goofy wandering through what appears to be a dark cave looking for someone. Donald says, “I wonder where he is,” to which Goofy replies, “I don’t know, but I sure hope he can help.” The two are startled by a voice behind them that says, “Hey! Just where do you think you’re going?” They both scream in fright as it appears a bright flame has been ignited, and then the screen fades to black with the words, “Magic in the Making.” Kingdom Hearts 4 is currently in early development.
Also announced was a new 3D action game for iOS/Android called Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link. The game plays similarly to the mainline series and has a closed beta test happening sometime in 2022. Also announced was the final chapter of Kingdom Hearts Dark Road that will be released in August 2022 as a free update for the Kingdom Hearts Union χ Dark Road app.
