Konami is Making a MGS: Snake Eater Pachislot Machine

The inevitable arcade gambling machine, belonging to a category that is still quite popular in Japan, especially among middle aged men, will be released this fall, and will actually come with a hell of a rig (at least for a pachislot).

It will come with a 32 inches 1080p LCD screen, delivering what Konami boasts will be the “next generation of pachislot and entertainment experience,” with “overwhelming sense of realism, high-end visuals and dramatic and thrilling story and battles.”

The scenes from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in the trailer actually look very good, which might potentially make this all the more painful.

Check out the Trailer:

“For those who aren’t familiar with these machines, Pachinko is a type of mechanical game that is used for both arcade titles and gambling.  With gambling illegal in Japan, Pachinko serves as one of the country’s alternatives to western slot machines, as cash earnings are not exchanged “directly” to players.

Instead, earnings from a Pachinko game come in the form of Pachinko Balls, which are then exchanged for tokens/prizes. Players can then head to a nearby parlor, and exchanged these tokens/prizes for cash.

As previously reported in the International Business Times back in 2014, the Pachinko industry is worth over 20 trillion yen (£115 billion) and remains fairly popular in the Japan.

This isn’t the first time that Konami has turned over one their franchises to the Pachinko market. Back in August, Konami released an announcement trailer for a Silent Hill themed Pachinko machine, which was set for release in October. The trailer was met with backlash, considering how the announcement was made after the cancellation of Silent Hills.”
