Konami May Be Working on a Metal Gear Solid Game

Konami may be working on a new Metal Gear Solid project, information about the project has been teased by Solid Snake and Big Boss’ voice actor David Hayter.

As seen in the tweet above, Hayter shared the screenshot of the Zoom call with some veterans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. All that it’s known is that details will be revealed soon.

Here is the list of voice-over actors present at the Zoom conference:

  • David Hayter – Solid Snake
  • Debi Mae West – Meryl Silverburgh
  • Robin Atkin Downes – Kazuhira Miller
  • Christopher Randolph – Otacon/Huey
  • Tasia Valenza – Sniper Wolf
  • Cam Clarke – Liquid Snake
  • Paul Eiding – Roy Campbell
  • Josh Keaton – Revolver Ocelot
  • Lori Alan – The Boss
  • Jennifer Hale – Naomi Hunter

Seeing the cast, fans could assume that Konami is working on a reboot, or remake of the PlayStation Metal Gear Solid, however, those with a keen eye might notice that Lori Alan, who was the voice actor for The Boss is also present in the teased Zoom conference.

The Boss is Big Boss’ mentor, she was born in 1922 and she died in Operation Snake Eater in 1964. The fictitious character was not introduced in the franchise until Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, something that may confirm that whatever David Hayter is teasing is not a remake of Metal Gear Solid.

It’s important to mention that Konami appears to be detached from the video games industry, the company has been investing more in the arcade/gambling market with the new line-up of pachinko machines. In recent news, Konami has announced to investors an organizational restructuring in which it’s stated that the company is “dissolving the Production Divisions to respond to the rapid market that surrounds us”.

This means that Konami is now less capable of producing AAA video games, the company is still holding the IP of Metal Gear Solid so the company might be forced to reach a third-party development team to work on newer games based on the franchise.
