Seven years after the game’s announcement in 2009, The Last Guardian will launch for PlayStation 4 on December 6 in the Americas and Japan, December 7 in Europe, and December 9 in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The Last Guardian takes things a step further, introducing a huge, gryphon-like creature that is both the player’s ally and a wild animal with an unpredictable will of its own. In theory, earning the trust of a fantastic beast sounds like a wonderful subject for a game, but will it prove frustrating in practice? We won’t know the answer to that question for a couple of weeks yet, but one thing that’s been clear all along is that, once again, Ueda’s eye for design is distinctive and exquisite.

As a developer, in order to form such a character you need assistance from that character’s surroundings – that’s where the role of the NPC, or opposite character in the case of our games, comes in. The secondary character helps shape the main character. That’s how we make our games.”
