Nintendo confirmed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be a launch game for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U on March 03, 2017.
During the event, Nintendo also showed a new story-heavy trailer setting up the main antagonist, Calamity Ganon.
The video show a black shroud envelop a portion of the world and monsters appear to take over. Link is shown interacting with a variety of characters and, at one point, seems to have gathered a group of adventurers aiding him on his quest and finally we saw zelda!
The Switch version of Breath of the Wild will be comparable to the one on Wii U, although it will take advantage of the newer console’s increased capabilities. It will also be compatible with new amiibo, as well as the Wolf Link amiibo figure.

“This news tightens up reports that had been shifting back and forth as recently as this week, regarding when exactly we could expect the next highly anticipated Zelda adventure to launch. The game received a number of delays, and the most recent one, in April of last year, bumped the game from “holiday 2016” into a vague “2017” window. That bump may very well have revolved around Nintendo’s announcement that it would launch the game on both the Wii U and the Switch; that’s still the case, and Nintendo took the opportunity to confirm that the Wii U version would also launch on the same day in March.
This marks the second time Nintendo has launched a console with a major Zelda game—and the second time it’s done so while simultaneously releasing the same game on an older console. The last title to share those honors was the original Twilight Princess, which launched in November 2006 on both the Gamecube and the Wii. (That 2005 game also marked the first 3D Zelda title to feature a right-handed Link, at least on the Wii; the entire game’s world was mirrored to accommodate this hand-favoring swap, as well.”
