During a Sony investors day presentation the company revealed its plans to port Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End to the PC. This will be the first game in the flagship PlayStation series to see release outside of their consoles. There is no word however on if we can expect the Uncharted Collection, which compilated the three other main titles in the series, to release on PC as well. Thankfully each entry in the series is easily picked regardless of if you played any others.
The presentation, which was leaked on Wednesday, says that more PC game are planned for the future. Other recently ported games where listed when discussing the topic. However up until this point Uncharted 4, originally released in 2016, had not previously been announced.
Sony has recently begun a more concentrated effort too see their franchise reach the PC market. Popular robot dinosaur hunting action game Horizon: Zero Dawn sold very well upon it’s port. However Hideo Kojima’s first post Konami outing Death Stranding received more lackluster sales.
The most recent game to be ported was 2019’s Days Gone. Upon it’s release it topped the steam sales charts and has continued to remain within the best sellers. Recently a planned sequel was reported scraped due to, among other reasons, lackluster sales. It will be interesting to see if it’s new market might cause this decision to be revisited. During the presentation Sony stressed this “create new fans for our IP.” Which illustrates this form of thinking is fresh in their minds.
With Sony more committed to porting their games it should be interesting to see what the future holds. Other franchises like Ratchet & Clank, Last of Us, or God of War could be the next to see a broader release.
