Amazon Games and Smilegate RPG have recently announced that Lost Ark, the immensely popular free-to-play Korean MMO has surpassed 20 million users globally. Lost Ark has continued to be extremely popular in the west after its launch on February 11th, where it quickly shot up to second place on Steam’s most played games with a record of 1.32 million concurrent users.
Over 4.7 million new users joined the Lost Ark community in it’s first three days of western release, and currently the user base of North America, Europe, South America, and Australia has reached over 10 million. Christoph Hartmann, vice president of Amazon Games is excited about the growing number of global players, and states that Amazon plans to work together with Smilegate to support the game in the future:
Overall, the excitement surrounding Lost Ark from around the world is quickly gaining steam, as evidenced by the growing number of global players. Together with Smilegate, we are committed to supporting the growing community with a robust roadmap of updates in the years to come.
Many updates are planned for the near future of Lost Ark, as the western release is currently several versions behind the Korean release and lacks several classes and a lot of content that Korean users have access to. Some of the first changes we may see is the unlocking of some of the currently gender locked classes. Smilegate RPG made an effort to include classes that currently have a male and female version in the current Korean release, so it is likely that we will begin seeing these soon as this is one aspect of the game that has been criticized.
Lost Ark has received generally favorable reviews by critics, currently sitting at a score of 83 on Opencritic and an 81 on Metacritic and has been praised for it’s massive open world, detailed battle system and excellent visuals. The game is free-to-play and is currently available on Steam.
