As usual, around the time of E3, we start to hear all the many rumors for projects we can expect to be showcased. One of the many games we thought we might see something for going into it was Wolfenstein 3 from MachineGames on the Xbox & Bethesda Stage. In fact, this was one of the rumors I was pretty confident on, and yet, nothing.
Bethesda SVP Pete Hine recently gave an interview to GameSpot in which he stated he would love to see another Wolfenstein, however, that seems unlikely in the near future. The reason for that is that the Studio is very invested in their untitled Indiana Jones game for the unforeseeable future. The project, which was announced earlier this year, is their top priority moving forward which means any other projects that might be in development will take a back seat for now.
When talking about Indiana Jones and other projects he said:
We literally just announced that deal, so you can make your own guesses at how far along that is. They’re in the very, very, very early stages of working on the Indiana Jones game. Where we are for Wolfenstein, or quite honestly any other franchise that we don’t have announced plans on, will have to wait until we get to the point of wanting to talk about it. But you can put me at the head of the list of people who want to see another Wolfenstein game, so no worries there.
We know that the studio has multiple teams and that more than one game is currently in development at MachineGames. It has not been confirmed that those other projects include a new Wolfenstein, but it has been assumed that would be the next project.
It can be assumed we will start to hear more once the mysterious Indian Jones project is further along.
