Marvel: Midnight Suns Delayed to Second Half of 2022

Firaxis, the developers behind the upcoming game Marvel: Midnight Suns, announced that their game will be delayed to the Second half of 2022. While this game was already planned for 2022, this year has already seen many games pushed into 2022 such as Horizon: Forbidden West, Rainbox Six Extraction, and Ghostwire: Tokyo were all similarly moved into that window.

This news was announced by the studio several avenues, including their official Twitter account which you can read below. In it, they stated that “We decided to push our launch because we need more time to make this the best game possible.” And that “These extra months will be used to add more story, cinematics and overall polish and will be essential in helping us make our vision a reality.”

Similar to another Firaxis series, XCOM, Midnight Suns will play as a tactical RPG in which the player controls Marvel characters like Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Captain Marvel, and more to defeat the demonic forces of the underworld. The game will feature the darker side of the Marvel universe, and focus on more occult or supernatural elements. It will also feature a customizable, and original, lead character.

Based on their earlier gameplay trailer the game already looked to be heavy on story. A location known as the Abby allowed the player to interact with Marvel characters and foster friendships with them. This included cutscene-like moments with said characters. I would be curious to see what story elements the plan is to add with the additional time.

This is only one of many Marvel games set to release over the coming years. During the PlayStation Showcase, Spider-Man 2 was announced alongside Wolverine which will be set in the same universe. There is also an untitled project coming from Amy Hennig’s new studio Skydance New Media. And recently the Guardians of The Galaxy received a new game developed by Eidos Montreal.
