Revealed during an investor’s presentation the other day, it was announced that Daybreak Game‘s Austin Based Dimensional Ink games studio is developing a new Marvel Universe-based MMO. That same presentation suggested however that we will have to wait several years for some form of official announcement.
Spotted by Eurogamer and Twitch streamer Miller, Daybreaks parent company Enad Global 7 released its quarter 3 2021 financial report. In the said presentation, which can be found online, it was quietly announced that Daybreak and Dimensional Ink were working on a new AAA MMO which was “utilizing Marvel IP.”
In another portion of the presentation, it was stated that the project was being helmed by Jack Emmert. Right now he is in charge of DC Universe Online, however, before that he also helped design and lead City of Heroes, as well as co-founded the studio behind the game, Cryptic Studios.
The game was described during the presentation as being “longer-term,” for after 2022. This means that the earliest we might see the game is at some point in 2023 though it is possible it might be longer. Daybreak had previously been reported to have been developing a Marvel-based MMO in 2018 before the company was hit with layoffs. Shortly after this, the rumored Marvel game was supposedly shelved, though this suggested that the project has been revived.
In the meantime, Marvel fans have a lot of games to look forward to. Insomniac Games is following up their Spider-Man game with Spider-Man 2, as well as a Wolverine game set in the same universe. Firaxis also has Marvel Midnight suns in development, taking a tactical RPG approach to the marvel universe. On top of that, original Uncharted Director Amy Hennig has announced that her new studio will also be working on a Marvel Title, though what has yet to be announced.
