Microsoft CEO Says the Cloud Gaming Partnership Is All Driven by Sony

Microsoft and Sony are always known for their huge competition in the world of video games. Xbox versus PlayStation has always been a hot topic at the industry. We barely see such a great rivalry ends in partnership and collaboration, but anyway, this time around, it happened. Sony and Microsoft officially announced their partnership on expanding cloud gaming back in May this year. Now, Satya Nadella, CEO at Microsoft, shares more details on the deal.

According to Nadella, Sony was the side that requested for such a partnership. He believes that Microsoft will do its best for Sony when it comes to cloud or AI systems. Nadella said:

First of all, It’s all driven by Sony. They looked at who are all their partners that they can trust. In fact, it turns out, even though we’ve competed, we’ve also partnered.

Basically and fundamentally the fact that we have a business model in the areas that they’re partnering with us, where we’re dependent on their success. So we will do the best job for them, whether it’s in cloud or in A.I. or what have you, in order to make sure that Sony can succeed with their own IP creation.

Having such a deal with your top rival, especially when Google enters to the industry with Stadia, could mean that both Sony and Microsoft don’t want to lose the newly popped-up way of gaming to Google. Streaming platforms and cloud gaming might be dead soon, but what if it becomes the future of gaming? It’s not a bet to lose.
