Microsoft Could Acquire a Big Japanese Studio Says Report

As reported by Bloomberg, Microsoft is now holding private talks with big and small studios to incorporate them into the Xbox Game Studios brand.

Xbox’s strategy to acquire an important and perhaps historical Japanese game studio could be crucial for entering the Asian market with its Xbox Series X|S.

“The Xbox has a chance to make Japan its second-largest market after the U.S. if it takes the right steps for years to come,” said Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Ace Research Institute in Tokyo. “Sony’s attention is drifting away and fans have started to notice that.”

Microsoft’s Director of Game Operations in Asia, Jeremy Hinton was asked for more information about the negotiations and he explained that the company is always open to integrate creators that are a good fit.

Xbox’s Series X|S will launch tomorrow, and the strategy has been made clear for all Xbox’s fans, the company designed the most powerful and the most economical next-gen console, the company is also investing heavily in video-games production with the acquisition of Double Fine, Ninja Theory, Obsidian, Bethesda and id Software.

Microsoft is certainly closing the gap with Nintendo and PlayStation Studios, the company is also bolstering the Xbox Game Pass with the addition of EA Play and Project xCloud.

Bloomberg’s report also affirms that analyst affirms that Sony’s is resting on its laurels in Japan and it’s favoring the supply of PS5 consoles for North America and Europe.

“It’s analyst consensus that PlayStation no longer sees the Japan market as important,” Morningstar Research analyst Kazunori Ito said. “If you want to know their take on the Japanese market, you need to ask about it because otherwise Sony wouldn’t talk about it.”

The analyst expects that Sony’s disinterest in their local market could see Xbox’s eager approach to be key for achieving the desired expansion to the Asian market.
