MiHoYo Leaks Genshin Impact Players Phone Numbers

According to reports, Chinese developer, MiHoYo has unfortunately disclosed the phone number of several Genshin Impact users.

As reported on Reddit, the developer revealed the private phone number of the users when the ‘Forgot Password’ function was used on the developer’s website. The website blurred the email but not the phone number.

The problem was that process to recover the password of a linked account asks for the username, players who got its username exposed also revealed its phone number. The leak affected players in Asia, Europe, and North America.

An update on Reddit also informs that MiHoYo apparently is now censoring the sensitive information of the player. The user encourages users to ask the developer for the implementation of the Two Factor Authentication, this could help the new game to protect users and privacy. It’s also recommended that players keep an eye on the privacy settings and constantly check the developer’s website.

Privacy and Genshin Impact does not seem to get along, the same problem was mentioned in another Reddit thread in October. The developer has also been blamed for using an anti-cheat system that worked like spyware, always open in Windows’ background, unstoppable for the regular user, and starting with the OS.

The backlash forced the developer to explain the situation and remove the polemic anti-cheat kernel.

We had previously received feedback from some players that when opening Genshin Impact client on PC, the game’s anti-cheat program would automatically run in the background, and that the anti-cheat program would continue to run after exiting or uninstalling the game.

This issue has now been resolved. The game’s anti-cheat program will immediately end once the game client is closed or uninstalled. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue. We will do our utmost to prevent such issues from occurring again in the future, and will continue optimizing our workflow to bring the highest-quality gaming experience possible to all of our Travelers.

Genshin Impact

launched  PlayStation 4, PC, Android, and iOS on September 28, the free-to-play game has grossed over $100 million in just three weeks after launch. The positive reception and more funding have encouraged the development studios to hasten the development of future updates and content to keep the player’s entertained.

In December, Genshin Impact will receive a new region called Dragonspire, the new location will also feature its own unique event.

According to MiHoYo, the development team is confident to roll out a new version of the game every six weeks on Wednesday, those update will add new activities and events that will reward participants with new items and experiences. Genshin Impact will add cultural events matching real-world calendar events, confirmed events are Ludi Harpastum and the Windbloom Festival in Mondstadt, as well as the Lantern Rite and Moonchase Festival in Liyue.
