Capcom are introducing the brand new Lunastra update for all Monster Hunter Worldplayers, which is bringing with it a new Elder Dragon.
The Lunastra update is set to go live for all Monster Hunter World players tomorrow, on May 31. We don’t yet know what time or what size the update file will be when it eventually launches on PS4 and Xbox One, but we can’t imagine it being much bigger than 5-7GB.
The highlight of the brand new update is obviously the titular Elder Dragon Lunastra. This marks the third monster that Capcom has added to Monster Hunter World after it launched back in January 2018, with the Deviljho, and then the Elder Dragon Kulve Taroth both being added to the game over the past few months.
All throughout the trailer for the Lunastra update, you can see the Elder Dragon wreaking havoc throughout the Elder’s Recess area in Monster Hunter World. We’d imagine that this is where the new Elder Dragon will be confined to once the Lunastra update goes live for Monster Hunter World, as it doesn’t look like it would suit the Ancient Forest or other regions of the game.
Introduced to the series in Monster Hunter 2, Lunastra is back with “new tricks and unique abilities.” She is more aggressive than her male companion Teostra, and able to alter the environment around her.

While teamwork is important when battling Lunastra, this time out she’s able to fight alongside Teostra and bond with him for stronger attacks; therefore, it’s best to have a strong, full hunting party on hand when going into battle.
Once downed, rare materials gathered from Lunastra can be combined with a Bazelgeuse Gem to unlock the “Guts” skill, which adds a tactical defensive ability to Lunastra weapons. Materials from Nergigante and Xeno’jiiva, along with other monster drops “resonate” with Lunastra’s materials.
Be sure to visit the Smithy to find out more on how these drops combine with the Elder Dragon.
