Warner Bros. franchise fighting game Multiversus has been officially announced by the company. Being developed by Player First Games, the title will feature characters from across Warner Bros. owned media duking it out in Super Smash Bros. inspired combat. While it had only been rumored up to this point, several leaks for the game, including still images, seemed to heavily suggest it was only a matter of time before it was announced.
Similar to Brawlhalla, the game will be free-to-play and will feature a roster of characters that continues to grow. The trailer also makes clear that a strong emphasis has been placed on team play featuring a 2v2 mode, with characters like Wonder Woman being able to lasso a teammate to save them from falling off the edge of the arena, or Steven Universe being able to project a shield to protect their partner. If you want to play alone, don’t worry, the game will also have a solo play.
Having so many iconic characters appearing is great, but what is better is that many of their voice actors have returned to voice them. This includes Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman, John Dimaggio as Jake the Dog, and more.
In an official press release for the game, David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Games stated:
With MultiVersus we are creating a distinct competitive game that allows us to combine a deep roster of celebrated WarnerMedia franchises for gamers to enjoy. We are partnering with the talented team at Player First Games to bring together a free-to-play, online platform fighter with a wealth of iconic characters that fans know and love, from Wonder Woman and Bugs Bunny to Shaggy and Arya from Game of Thrones. And this is just the beginning, as we are excited to support upcoming seasons and ongoing game content.
The game will also include cross-play and cross-progression and promises dedicated servers from day one. Multiversus is currently slated for release in 2022 but for those interested in trying to get into the upcoming playtests for the title, go here to sign up.
