Hyoung Nam, Concept Artist for Naughty Dog shared three pieces of concept art inspired by a “new game”.
The art was shared in late 2020 on Nam’s Artstation account, also has the description of the artist saying “You know what I’m talking about…” suggesting that we could be seeing the protagonist of a new IP from the acclaimed studio.
Nam’s three concept art pieces seem to suggest that the upcoming game is a fantasy game of some sorts, this would be very different from The Last of Us, and the Uncharted series, and if it is a real representation of the developers’ vision, the studio would be tackling on a brand new setting.
Recent information from Naughty Dog confirms that the studio is already working on its next project, studio co-president Neil Druckmann was recently looking to hire designers for a next-gen game. Then in October 2020, there was speculation that the studio could be working on new content related to The Last of Us Part II. This was suggested by Derek Phillips when announced to be doing motion capture on an unannounced project.
Neil Druckmann discussed the future project of the studio and he suggested that The Last of Us Part III could happen, he also mentioned that a new IP would be the direction for the future since they have not produced a new IP since 2013.
“As you start wrapping things up, creatively there are fewer and fewer responsibilities and my mind can’t help but think about the next thing,” Druckmann says. “So, yeah, the next thing could be a Part III, the next thing could be some new IP.”
Naughty Dog
also confirmed that they are not planning to release DLCs for The Last of Us: Part II Druckmann affirmed that they would like to return to the multiplayer games, this is what Druckmann said back in June 2020.
“You will eventually experience the fruits of our team’s online ambition,” Naughty Dog said at the time, “but not as part of The Last of Us 2. When and where it will be realized is still to be determined. But rest assured, we are as big a fan of Factions as the rest of our community and are excited to share more when it’s ready.”
