New Details Emerge on the Cancelled Single Player DLC for GTA V

With Rockstar’s highly popular and profitable GTA V, many fans of the single player narrative were forever hoping to see new content added via story DLC. However, due to the monumental success of the multiplayer portion of the game – GTA Online – Rockstar Games abandoned the once planned DLC for more fruitful endeavors into the wild online world.

In an article highlighted by Eurogamer, known GTA dataminers Tez2 and Yan2295 revealed a few interesting details they were able to uncover regarding potential single player DLC for GTA V. The fist bit of DLC was interesting as it was supposed to add a zombie infestation to the map which would have redesigned most of the map to fit the undead theme.

“They had plans to redesign 80 or 90 percent of the map to fit a specific theme – one of the episodes was supposed to feature a zombie apocalypse. Rockstar would make changes to the whole map to fit the zombie apocalypse theme.” – Tez2

The second bit of DLC information revealed was that apparently Rockstar was planning on adding the recently opened Diamond Casino to the story mode via heist missions as a apart of DLC that took place after Trevor’s story conclusion. According to the datamining, the new DLC would involve Trevor eventually robbing the Casino in an Ocean-11 inspired questline.

“The casino was supposed to come to GTA 5 as single-player DLC as well as to GTA Online. But as many already know, the single-player DLCs got cancelled thanks to the success of GTA Online.” – Yan2295

As for now, it seems these interesting and exciting DLC bits will be forever lost leaving fans only to wonder what could have been. However, maybe it’s time Rockstar puts in the effort for creating some interesting single player DLC for their most recent release, Red Dead Redemption 2 – since there’s clearly been enough demand for it. Then again, the veteran game studio would be hard-pressed not to focus its time and energy on capitalizing on the influx of profit to be made from various online and multiplayer elements in Red Dead Online.
