Sony released a very unexpected announcement at the PlayStation Experience 2017, they announced that a new MediEvil Remaster is in development for PlayStation 4, effectively bringing in one of it’s most iconic first-party franchises from the 5th generation of gaming.
Not much has been shown other than a small little teaser stating there is indeed a new MediEvil game in development.
Below is a small little teaser that was shown at the PlayStation Experience 2017
Not much is known about a release date for the game, it has only been confirmed to be in development for PlayStation 4, so it is safe to assume that it will come out some time in late 2018 or 2019 at most.
For those who don’t know about what the MediEvil games are, they consist on a series of action-adventure hack and slash video games developed by SCE Cambridge Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The series revolves around an undead charlatan knight, Sir Daniel Fortesque, as he attempts to restore peace to the fictional Kingdom of Gallowmere whilst simultaneously redeeming himself.
Only three games have been developed so far for the franchise, MediEvil and MediEvil 2 for the original PlayStation and MediEvil resurrection which is a remake of the first game that was developed for the PSP. all of the games were developed by the former Sony Computer Entertainment Cambridge Studios which are now known as Guerilla Games, which all of you may know this already, but they are best known for the Killzone Franchise and Horizon: Zero Dawn.
No confirmation was also given as to who are going to be the developers for the new MediEvil game, however, it was announced that the game was being developed at a Studio in London, so It is unlikely that Guerrilla Games is behind the development of the game.
It is indeed gratifying to see that Sony Interactive Entertainment having a keen interest in resuscitating their old but gold franchises that defined PlayStation brand back in the 90s, here is the hoping for a brand new Ape Escape or Legend of Dragoon.
