Earlier this year EA announced that a new entry in the Need for Speed series will be hitting the industry later this year. While we’ve yet to hear anything regarding the new title, we’re now landing on the eighth month of the year with still no details, let alone announcement or title, for the new racing game.
However, it certainly seems like we should be getting close as EA told investors during their earnings report that the reveal will be coming soon, most likely around Gamescom this August. While there’s nothing to report on in terms of details or release date, a recent leak also pointed towards the title of the new game being Need for Speed: Heat.
A German retailer – Gameware – listed the new Need for Speed 2019 title under the name “Heat”. The leak also revealed some cover art but it seems unlikely that the art used will actually be the real box art for the game.
EA skipped releasing a new Need for Speed title last year as it gave the series a breather in order to focus on delivering a worthy title in the series – something that’s been missing over the last few entries.
The investors and earnings report also stated that the company expects to sell 4 million copies of the new, unannounced title. There’s a good chance we’ll see the reveal during the actual Gamescom event which starts on August 20, 2019.
