Atlus has revealed a brand new persona hitting the upcoming expansion for Person 5, Persona 5 Royal. The new persona is named Fafnir hasn’t made an appearance in a Persona title since Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, making its debut for the newer era of the coveted Persona series. However, Fafnir did make an appearance in other Shin Megami Tensei titles, such as Devil Survivor: Overclocked and the sequel, Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker.

While we’ve already sen plenty of new details on the upcoming Persona 5 Royal expansion thus far, this is the first time we’ve seen new details on a new persona hitting the series. Though many fans will want a simple DLC update for the already existing Persona 5 title, the Royal expansion changes so many features in the base game, it’s essential to re-create the game entirely rather than add the new features via a simple update. It’s also nothing new to what Atlus has done in the past with previous Persona titles, such as Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 FES.
So far, Atlus has done an excellent job at giving fans a closer look at what to expect in terms of new features for Persona 5 Royal. The upcoming expansion is set to add tons of new features to the already enduring JRPG experience. While the new Confidant of Takuto Maruki has already been confirmed, there’s also a brand new palace to infiltrate and conquer, a new location in Kichijoji to explore and perform new activities and shop at new stores along with the entire third semester to play through, which was previously unplayable in the base version of the game.
Persona 5 Royal will add to the entire experience of the original Persona 5 story, changing aspects and scenarios from nearly the very beginning of the story. Atlus has been hyping up the upcoming expansion with a flurry of new trailers, gameplay snippets, a video series titled “Morgana’s Report” which showcases new features and weekly new details on what fans can expect in the massive add-on.
The original Persona 5 game had players fill the role of Joker, the leader of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts – a gang of high school teenagers all with their own personal struggles in life. The Phantom Thieves explore “Palaces” which are disturbed thoughts manifested into an alternate reality from the minds of crooked adults. The Phantom Thieves steal their “hearts” from the palace in order to change their vile ways.
Persona 5 Royal has been slated to release in Japan on October 31, 2019 while Atlus has just recently revealed that the west version of Persona 5 Royal is set to launch sometime in the spring of 2020.
