Shenmue III has been a highly anticipated title for long-time fans of the series which initially debuted on the Sega Dreamcast. With the recent release of the first two Shenmue titles in remastered form, the Shenmue series is back and looks to be better than ever with the third installment narrowing in.
The original Shenmue title released all the way back in 1999 for the Sega Dreamcast, still to this day sitting as one of the console’s shining experiences. The sequel hit in 2001, marking the end to the series for the next decade and a half. While diehard fans of the series pleaded, it wasn’t until Ys Net successfully ran a crowdfunding campaign in 2015 for a true third installment to the series. The upcoming third installment has been largely looked as a return to what many believe the true eye-opener to the open world game design, similar to how Rockstar Games and DMA Design hit the ground running in the genre in 2001 on the PS2 with Grand Theft Auto III.
While initially, Shenmue III was expected to release this month, the developers at Ys Net decided more time was needed in order to create a polished and complete experience. The game’s release has now been moved to November 19, 2019 with a trial version for backers of the game set to release in September.
Shenmue III will release solely on the PS4 and PC.
