New TimeSplitters Game In Development at Free Radical

Deep Silver announced today that the acclaimed PS2 FPS franchise, TimeSplitters, has been brought back to life by a newly restored Free Radical Design.

The development of the game is set to begin in the following months after the new studio is built. The game will be produced with the direction of Steve Ellis and David Doak, both founders of Free Radical Design in 1999.

You asked and we listened. We have been working on plans to bring the TimeSplitters franchise back to life, and we are pleased to let you know that we are setting up a new Deep Silver development studio to do just that. Free Radical Desing is reforming and will be headed up by industry and TimeSplitters veterans, Steve Ellis and David Doak.

This is an exciting first step in the process; development on a new game has not yet started and we will update you when we have more news to share.

Deep Silver acquired the rights to the franchise in 2018, in 2019, the publisher confirmed a collaboration with series creator Steve Elis to “help plot the future course for this franchise.”

“To finally be able to confirm that the studio has been formed and that we have a plan for the next TimeSplitters game is incredible,” said Free Radical’s Steve Ellis. “While we cannot tell you anything more at the moment, we look forward to sharing information in the future.”

Free Radical’s TimeSplitters was a spiritual successor to Rare’s GoldenEye, the critically acclaimed Nintendo 64 shooter based on the 1995 James Bond film with the same name.

Free Radical’s founders worked at Rare before starting the new studio. Their next work, TimeSplitters became a huge hit and it’s now considered a classic. The franchise featured split-screen multiplayer modes that were especially beloved local multiplayer experiences.
