Reports from Push Square suggest that a new Tony Hawk Pro Skater game might be announced soon, information of the development of the game was leaked by an allegedly collaborating punk band called “The Death Set”. The band announced on their official Facebook page that they recorded a song for an upcoming Tony Hawk 2020 game, the post has since been deleting from the social media but a screenshot of it was saved and it’s shown on Twitter.
Insiders have already suggested that Activision has been planning a remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater for quite a while now, those insiders claims that, several prototypes had already been developed, and some could become a complete game. VideoGamer also reports that, Lizzie Armanto, a professional Skater, also talked that a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game was being developed. She claims that she will be in the game.
For the moment, Activision has not announced anything related to the popular franchise, but the timing seems correct for a remake or reboot. It’s a nostalgic moment for the gaming community, retro consoles like the Commodore 64 Mini, NES Classic had arrived, and great games from the late nineties are being completely re-imagined. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater is one of the most enigmatic games from the PlayStation console, surely after the flop of the fifth release of the franchise the game deserves a reboot, a complete make-over ahead of the next generation of consoles would be well received.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was developed by Neversoft and published by Activision, the game released first for the PlayStation on September 29, 1999, following the game’s success, Activision hired several developers who ported the game to the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, Dreamcast, and N-Gage. The game was followed with three more successful releases, but following those, Activision opted for different kind of Tony Hawk’s games that favored open world mechanics, an approach that didn’t help the franchise. Facing an imminent expire of the license, Activision developed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, a game that was developed in a few months and managed to kill the franchise.
