Amplitude Studios announced today that a new major update for their 4X sci-fi game, Endless Space 2, is available today on Steam. The update adds a new major faction – the Horatio, a race led by an eccentric trillionaire who decided to clone himself and make the galaxy beautiful again, plus three new minor factions, an overhauled technology tree, an improved battle system and more.

“Beloved, headstrong strategy types Amplitude are making the first sequel in their history: Endless Space 2. After four years away to let new ideas percolate and expand their fiction into the roguelike and fantasy 4X genres, they’re returning to the turn-based colonisation sim that made their name.
Amplitude are closely intertwined with their community, to the extent that their most devoted fans and testers actually have a say on when their games come out.
“We have some pretty scary times at game release because we’re asking the VIPs to vote on whether the game should release at this date,” CEO Mathieu Girard admitted in our Amplitude interview. “It can be really tricky.”
However: the game’s already available to play in Steam Early Access – currently $29.99 on Steam, or $37.49 for the Digital Deluxe edition – so the release date question is now more academic. Amplitude tend to take between four and six months to work through Early Access, so expect the finished article sometime in early 2017.”
