Amazon Games’ upcoming MMORPG New World will be going into a closed beta starting this week. That closed beta will be starting tomorrow and if you have already pre-purchased the game you will be guaranteed a spot in this beta.
New World is Amazon’s latest attempt to break into the video game market after several setbacks, including a canceled Lord of The Rings MMO and the poorly received Crucible. This game is a 17th-century fantasy game set in a colonial setting. The game will not have a traditional class structure, instead linking progress to equipped weapons.
The game will feature exploration, large-scale PvP modes, territory control elements, and factions. According to an official statement from the team behind the game:
Our vision for New World is to create a game where PvP and PvE play styles will not just coexist but will complement each other.
New World
has experienced several setbacks as well. Originally set to launch last year in August it was delayed into this year. It was stated at the time this decision was made to “scrutinizing our feature list, taking input from our Alpha audience, and listening to what they enjoyed (or didn’t!) about the current game,” as stated by Amazon Games.
Instead, during the period that the game was set to release a Beta was held to get more feedback on the experience. An alpha update from May of 2021 also lists things that the studio is focused on which includes unlockable titles, faction housing, and more.
Speaking about plans for New World, it was Stated:
Remember, launch is Day 1. It is just the beginning for us, and we will continue to grow Aeternum, add features, and partner with our players to shape New World.
Prior game the Crucible suffered heavily from a drop-off of support after it failed to do as well as the studio had hoped. While that does not indicate what can be expected here, it does make us hope that they have learned their lessons moving forward. New World is set to fully launch in August of this year.
