New World Interactive Explains Its Cancelled Insurgency: Exiles

Personally, I really enjoy playing Insurgency: Sandstorm as one of the best titles within a rare genre. Not many realistic first-person shooter games are being developed nowadays but New World Interactive is one of the experienced ones with its Insurgency series, a franchise that could’ve had three entries up until now if the developer wouldn’t cancel Insurgency: Exiles.

Appearing at the new episode of Gameumentary, Jeremy Blum, CEO at New World Interactive, revealed some initial information on Insurgency: Exiles, a story-driven experience featuring campaign, multiplayer and co-op modes. The game was supposed set in Nicaragua, telling the tale of a revolution in the country. The team even visited Nicaragua and took some photographs in order to design the map and simulate the famous parts of the country. Blum said:

It took place in the Cold War, in the country of Nicaragua where there was a revolution. Really, to show both sides, but we particularly wanted to cover the Socialist revolutionary side of the conflict. We thought that was very interesting at the time to have a campaign from that perspective.

We were trying to make this single-player, multiplayer, co-op game which probably had the scope of something like Far Cry or GTA, and we realized very quickly that something of that scope was probably – well, we were punching way above out weight at that point.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is currently available on Steam and the team behind the game works on a brand new IP at its newly opened studio.
