While the saga of Kazuma Kiryu, more or less, came to a close after Yakuza 6, Sega isn’t quite finished with the series yet. As we ride towards the remastered release of Yakuza 5 by the end of spring, it seems there’s still more story to uncover in the Yakuza universe.
Sega has officially confirmed the development of a currently untitled Yakuza game, but is reportedly going to star Ichiban Kasuga – the protagonist for the PC and mobile online Yakuza title that released in Japan last year. There are also auditions currently being held for the open role of Kasuga’s female partner.
With the recent successes of Yakuza 6 and Yakuza Kiwami 2, and the recently announced remaster of Yakuza 5 arriving later this year, it’s clear Sega isn’t ready to let their biggest franchise dip into the void just yet. And with the series’ new spin-off title, Judgement, hopefully hitting its western release this summer, there seems to be plenty of room for the franchise to grow beyond the Kiryu storyline.
While there’s currently no release window, let alone title, for the upcoming new Yakuza title, it has been confirmed to be headed for the PS4. Per usual, we can expect the new Yakuza game to launch in Japan first before heading over to the western market.
