During a call with investors, Activision Blizzard explains that due to Call of Duty: Warzone ‘s success of 75 million players since it’s launch, the marketing, and development strategy of the publisher has changed.
The next Call Of Duty could be announced and revealed in-game as suggested by Activision Publishing president Rob Kotisch.
Kotisch was asked about the next mainline Call of Duty, what he could share at the moment is that Warzone has “created a ton of new opportunities for the franchise.” The large community of Warzone makes the game “a great platform” to share news and information.
“Starting with marketing, it’s definitely had an impact there and how we think about marketing in this new world,” Said Activision Publishing president Rob Kotish. “We have a larger, more engaged and more global audience than we’ve ever had at any point in time in our history. And that means that we could be more direct and more targeted than we’ve ever been before.”
While Kotisch seemed to avoid the question, he suggested that Warzone has given the development team more resources to deliver a better next-gen Call of Duty.
“To your initial point that you’re talking about why you were waiting for such a long time… it’s Warzone I think that’s caused us to rethink how, when and even where we reveal our upcoming title,”
“We can’t wait to share it with the community, and we think it’s going to be very different and more engaging than anything that we’ve ever done before.”
Activision-Blizzard reported revenue surges for the Q2 of its fiscal 2021, revenues of $1.92 billion, up from $1.4 billion in the same quarter last year. Digital net revenue was $1.59 billion, up from $1.09 billion last year.
