Next-Gen Consoles Might Be Delayed due to Coronavirus

According to ComicBook’s reports the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X might be delayed due to the epidemic of Coronavirus in China. The outlet analyze the situation and there are high chances that the production if not delayed might have problems with meet the demands at retail stores or maybe even worst, shipping enough units to pre-order buyers.

Last week Nintendo’s President Shuntaro Furukawa talked about the issue, and revealed that the outbreak of the Coronavirus is already affecting the supply of Nintendo Switch.

China, the place where Coronavirus was found and has the most infected people, the impact of the virus is already affecting the manufacturing process of large companies like Foxconn. According to ComicBook reports Foxconn is already quarantining employees which will unavoidable affect companies around the world.

“The video game sector is currently manufacturing, or beginning to, a once-in-several-years’ product generation change for the 2020 holiday season,” said Jefferies Group to investors. “If [company] shutdowns exceed a month or so, game schedules will be delayed. New consoles may likewise suffer supply issues from a prolonged disruption, ahead of their Fall 2020 planned launches.”

This information is based on analyst reports, and it’s made under the assumption of the CoronaVirus continuing expanding in China at an exponential rate. For the time of this post, only Nintendo has talked about how is the CoronaVirus already affecting them directly. Neither Sony or Microsoft, has talked about how can the virus affect  their supply of next-gen systems which are planned to release on Holidays 2020.
