While 2017’s Gran Turismo Sport is still receiving plenty of updates introducing new cars and tracks to the experience, developer Polyphony Digital is still looking ahead at the next release in the series. While we haven’t witnessed an official announcement in the form of trailer or gameplay footage, series CEO Kazunori Yamauchi has left a few details regarding the next title.
Though no trailer was revealed, Yamauchi did confirm that the next title in the coveted racing series is indeed in the development stages. Speaking with GT Planet, Yamauchi expressed his new vision for the series after traveling with numerous World Tour events.
While GT Sport has been a rising success over the years, especially considering the continuous support the game has received, fans of the massive car counts and tracks to race are still hungry for a return to form. And that’s exactly what Polyphony is aiming for with the next release.
“On the other hand, obviously we’re working on the next Gran Turismo already, and the world of sport we’ve achieved through GT Sport is something I’ve always imagined to be the future of Gran Turismo(…)I think the next title that we’re going to create will be a combination of the past, present and future–a complete form of Gran Turismo” – Kazunori Yamauchi
While Gt Sport seems to have scratched the itch Yamauchi had with the intentions of creating a dedicated multiplayer racing experience focused on the sport itself, the series CEO seems poised to return to the series roots while innovating further.
Stay tuned for future details, updates and official announcement for the next Gran Turismo title. If Polyphony Digital sticks to the typical cycle of new GT titles, however, we may not a see a new game until next-gen arrives.
