Nihilistic Software’s StarCraft Ghost Leaked on Dev Kit

Youtube user Leerz Meneses has leaked a gamplay video for StarCraft Ghost in an Xbox dev kit. What it is really interesting is the fact that Blizzard Entertainment cancelled StarCraft: Ghost way back on 2002. According to the leaker the game is playable and there are some bugs here and there.

Check the leaked gameplay video down below:

The leaker revealed his impression on the game:

– It works on devkit, vanilla XBOX or XBOX 360, it doesn’t seem to require a 128MB mod.
– It is a native 720P game out of the box, i havent seen any configuration file.
– Its packed with some Windows 16bit exectuables.
– It contains 6 levels but only 2 of them load, from Scattered Forces to Zergling Rush. Sabotage doesnt seem to be present in the game and the other three are maybe incomplete, since they dont fully load :-/
– Performance is quite bad along the levels, it never feels smooth but it is playable. I guess this could be improved forcing it at 480P..
– Control scheme is horrendous, there are two of them but they are pretty similar, changing Y/B to aim.
– There are two weapons: Rifle and silenced-energy pistol. Rifle has an alternate mode for a Gears of War’s Hammer of Dawn kind of attack.
– There are two powers: Invisibility, that works pretty much like Crysis cloak, and concentration, to recharge the psychokinetic stuff used for invisibility.
– Tutorial/Briefing menus are available, with some nice videos.
– Graphics are pretty good, with some cool details like the invisibility shader. It has a lot of potential.

The game was announced on September 20, 2002, and was to be developed by Nihilistic Software for the Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 video game consoles.

After several delays in development, Blizzard opted to gave the project to Swingin’ Ape Studios in 2004 before Blizzard bought the company, plans for the GameCube version were cancelled in 2005. Blizzard announced in March 2006 that the game was put on “indefinite hold”. Blizzard confused fans with back and forwards declarations about the game which, in 2014, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime confirmed that Ghost was officially cancelled.

The leaked video shows several Xbox 360 games and even an original Xbox game, which confirms what Phil Spencer is doing at making sure that Series X can handle old Xbox 360 and Xbox games.
