Ninja Theory Halts Updates for Bleeding Edge

Xbox Game Studio’s Ninja Theory announced today that the Bleeding Edge will no longer receive updates.

Ninja Theory revealed the game at E3 2019 and the reception of the game was positive following its release on Xbox Game Pass. However, due to the game’s mixed reviews and declining user base, the management at Ninja Theory has decided to focus on its bigger projects.

“With the studio now focusing on our new projects (Senua’s Saga, Project Mara & The Insight Project) we have decided that there will be no further content updates for Bleeding Edge. The game is still playable on Xbox and PC. Thank you to the fans & keep teaming up & causing chaos!”

Ninja Theory saw huge praise from the press, gaming, and scientific community for its representation of mental issues on Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. According to Wellcome the game is the best representation of psychosis in any media. The game won 5 BAFTAs, 3 The Game Awards, and a Royal College of Psychiatrist award.

Tameem Antoinnades, co-founder and creative director at Ninja Theory worked closely with Paul Fletcher, Psychiatrist, and Professor of Health Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. Their collaboration is extended to the next projects of the studio.

The Insight Project is an innovative R&D project that combines technology, game development, and clinical neuroscience. The developer is hoping t to deliver a mainstream solution to alleviate mental distress.

(The Insight Project)… “It is an exploratory but experimentally guided project that aims to deliver a mainstream solution to help treat mental suffering and encourage mental well being.”

Our goal is to create and inspire a movement and help mental health treatment to go mainstream.

Another experimental title being developed on Ninja Theory is Project: Mara, a videogame based on the “real-world” and will depict a grounded representation of mental terror. It will be based on lived experience accounts and in-depth research. The developer plans to recreate the horrors of the mind as accurately and realistically as possible.
