Ninja Theory has just released The Dreadnought Developer Diaries Episode 3, a showcase where the development team shares a closer look at the production of the innovative Project: Mara.
The next-gen project announced last year is an experimental title that explores new ways of storytelling. The game will feature a “real-world” and it will depict a grounded representation of mental terror.
In the short four and a half minutes of The Dreadnought Developer Diaries, Tameem Antoniades explains how the development team is working on creating the art of the game in an unprecedented way, focusing on the different materials of a common house to create a detailed, lifelike location.
“We’re aiming for an experience that feels real that doesn’t feel like a game and doesn’t feel like a movie,” explains Antoniades “It’s something altogether different. And there’s a power in tricking the mind into believing it’s real before then subverting it so that you experience the mind-bending strangeness and horror of the world that Mara inhabits.”
Ninja Theory was acquired by Microsoft and it’s one of the biggest assets of Xbox Game Studios. The studio is working on The Insight Project, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II for the Xbox Series X. According to the developer “these projects will continue to drive our development goals for the next few years and will help shape Ninja Theory’s vision for our future.”
Both The Insight Project and Project: Mara are being developed with the collaboration of DR. Paul Fletcher, a Psychiatrist, and Professor of Health Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. The contribution of Doctor Fletcher led Hellblade: Senuas’s Sacrifice to win multiple awards, including a Royal College of Psychiatrist award for the most accurate depiction of Psychosis in any media.
