Bloomberg spoke with people familiar with Nintendo’s plans who revealed details on the new revision of the Nintendo Switch, the device will use a significantly larger  Samsung OLED display that has faster response time, the handheld console will also be 4k capable thanks to upscaling technologies.

“Nintendo decided to go with rigid OLED panels for the new model, the people said, a cheaper but less flexible alternative to the type commonly used for high-end smartphones”, the report reads. “The latest model will also come with 4K ultra-high-definition graphics when paired with TVs, they said. That could intensify a longstanding complaint of developers, who have struggled with the difference in resolution between handheld and TV modes and now face a bigger gap between the two.”

Nintendo could reduce the size of the black bezels on the Switch Pro, the seven-inch screen is a significant upgrade from the 6.2 inches LCD from the original Switch and even more when compared to the 5.5 inches of the Switch Lite.

The OLED screen will significantly improve the performance of the device, the panel will reduce battery consumption, feature a higher contrast but will retain the 720p resolution at handheld mode.

Samsung is reportedly starting the manufacturing process of the Nintendo Switch Pro OLED panel in June, the panels will be ready to be shipped in July. Is now expected that Nintendo announces the console during the summer aiming for a holiday release.

As with all rumors and reports, readers should take all the information above with a pinch of salt for now.
