Following the recent statement from Nintendo concerning the ongoing “drift” issues with the Joy-Con controllers, it seems as though the video game veteran company will be taking the problem a bit more serious. A class action lawsuit has been previously issued towards the problem which no doubt had helped create some push to make the company act accordingly.
With the drift issue on the rise and causing concern for future products, including the upcoming Switch Lite console, Nintendo released a rather interesting statement regarding the problem. The statement essentially told users experiencing the problem to contact Nintendo’s customer support for further details.
It seems, however, that this was just the beginning as a document that has currently been unreleased by Nintendo and was sent over to VICE by an anonymous source, has given away details as to what Nintendo’s plans are for the issue. The document details that anyone experiencing the issue will receive a fix for no charge, regardless of warranty status or without any type of proof of purchase.
“Customers will no longer be requested to provide proof of purchase for Joy-Con repairs. Additionally it is not necessary to confirm warranty status. If a customer requests a refund for a previously paid Joy-Con repair […] confirm the prior repair and then issue a refund.”
The document also points out that any users who have already paid for their drift issue to be fixed will receive full refunds. While there’s no details as to what causes the problem initially or if Nintendo plans on making adjustments so this same issue will not continue to occur in the future, the steps taken by the company seems about as good as we could ask for.
While this is still under wraps as the internal memo has yet to be made official by Nintendo, stay tuned for more updates in the current ongoing Joy-Con drift situation.
