Nintendo Is not “Considering A Successor” After Switch’s Sales

Shuntaro Furukawa has recently was asked by The Sankei News if it was a goal for Nintendo to meet a 20 million Switch units sold worldwide by the end of the fiscal year, Furukawa answered back saying that it’s a tough goal but the company is looking forward to accomplish that goal, he confirms that Nintendo will not change anything if currents sales maintains, so prices cuts or thinking about another console it’s out of the question for the time being at Nintendo’s headquarters.

It is an extremely ambitious, but worthwhile achievement. So, we will maintain this goal. Nintendo Switch is our primary sales objective, and we are not considering a successor or a price cut at this time. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said.

When asked if Nintendo will bring more games to smartphones, Furukawa seem to have mixed feelings about it he explains that the company wants to sell more than just the game, and this is understandable.

Nintendo has growth from playing cards, then toys, to become perhaps the world’s biggest gaming company, and that’s the word that identifies Nintendo ‘gaming’, they not produce only games, but something that you can hold in your hands and interact with, so it’s seems like Shuntaro Furukawa is not convinced with the idea to stop making hardware, because that’s the relationship we as fans and costumers had with Nintendo, we known them from the Game Boy, to the Amiibo and now the Nintendo Labo.

Smartphone gaming for us is not a business where we sell our consumers a product once and that’s the majority of it. Our operational model is to continue to build a relationship with our consumers. It is very different from what we do with our dedicated gaming hardware, so we are in the midst of accumulating experiences in this field. We certainly want to release games across a wide variety of genres. We want this to continue to be one means of supporting our pillars of revenue.

To speak the truth I grew up with Nintendo, and I was scared by recent comments about the vision of the company, I was nervous when Shuntaro Furukawa was appointed but now I remain calm, because from these kinds of declarations he understands the what has led Nintendo to have such loyal fans across the world. It’s OK, when Reggie says that Nintendo it’s more focused towards entertainment than gaming because there is a huge market that Nintendo can step in and make revenue, but Shuntaro Furukawa knows that we might own a $2000 gaming PC, or a PS4 Pro, but a modest hardware from Nintendo will always put a smile in our face.
