While rumors have been swirling regarding a new Switch model, it seems that Nintendo has finally confirmed otherwise. In a financial report, Nintendo President and CEO Shuntaro Furukawa has stated that there are no plans to announce a new Switch model, or new hardware during this year’s E3 event.
While this doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t be receiving an additional Switch model in the future, it does paint a bit of a picture that Nintendo is focused on the current model of the Switch. And why shouldn’t they be? The original Switch is selling remarkably well, so why not stay focused on the one model that’s successful.
However, this doesn’t rule out a new, cheaper model – or even more powerful model – later down the line. Nintendo has released numerous models of previous consoles before, and they were all welcome additions to their hardware line up.
It was also stated by the Big N that they are always developing new hardware internally, so just because there’s no plans for an announcement at E3 2019, doesn’t mean we won’t receive a new announcement at a later Nintendo Direct Showcase, as well.
