Nintendo Switch Can Now Be Paired With Bluetooth Audio

A long-requested feature for the Nintendo Switch has finally been added, thanks to a new firmware update. This is the inclusion of the ability to connect some Bluetooth audio devices to the Switch, which took four years to finally be added. This feature does have some caveats but for many, the idea of connecting wireless headsets to it when on the go has been a no-brainer.

When the Nintendo Switch had launched the system featured multiple odd choices when it came to audio. One had the system required players to connect to chat parties through their phones before connecting it back to the system. The lack of Bluetooth audio was another that even at the time felt like an odd choice, as both the PlayStation and Xbox had used that for years prior. Of course, the system always had Bluetooth as the joy-cons and pro controller connected through it.

Nintendo has outlined some limitations when it comes to this new feature, as one might expect. According to the official website, these limitations are as such:

Note
  • Only one Bluetooth audio device can be paired at a time, but up to 10 devices can be saved on a Nintendo Switch system.

  • Bluetooth microphones cannot be used.

  • You may experience audio latency depending on your Bluetooth device.

Apple Airpods will also be compatible with the switch which I’m sure is welcome news to many a Switch Player. This update additionally enables software updates with the dock. This feature however will only be available with the Switch OLED which will release on October 8th.
