The ever-popular Wii Sports, released as a launch title that was bundled with the Nintendo Wii, will finally be getting a follow-up released for the Nintendo Switch entitled, as one might expect, Nintendo Switch Sports. The first game had initially followed up on the Wii with Wii Sports Resort in 2009, which featured a selection of tropical-themed mini-games, with this being the first game in the series in over a decade.
The trailer showcases that the game will once again feature multiple sports that can be played by yourself, with friends, or online, using the motion controls in the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons. Unfortunately, this leaves questions about whether or not the game can be enjoyed by Nintendo Switch Lite users who cannot remove their joy-cons from the console.
Returning from the initial games, Players can enjoy Tennis, Bowling, and Chambara without the need to plug back in their Wii console. Three new sports are also being added. These modes are badminton, soccer, and volleyball.
The physical version of the game will also include a leg strap for the soccer mode, allowing players to play soccer using a kicking motion rather than your arm. It was announced that the leg strap and leg motion play will be added to the game as a free update this summer, with another free update that adds golf coming sometime after that in the fall.
The trailer ended with a release date for when the sports compilation game will be available so we can start reliving our fondest memories. It will release on April 29th, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch console. An online play will be available for people that have a Nintendo Switch Online membership between February 18 and February 20. The three games available for the playtest are Tennis, Bowling, and Chambara.
