Koei Tecmo announced Nioh 2 for PlayStation 4 during Sony Interactive Entertainment’s E3 2018 press conference with a cinematic trailer showcasing glowing red demons, intense-looking samurai, and what looked to be a portal into hell.
No release information or supported platforms were revealed as part of the Nioh 2 announcement.
Watch the announcement trailer down below:
“The original Nioh was first released worldwide in February 2017, and was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PS4 internationally, and Koei Tecmo for the PS4 in Japan and Windows internationally. Gameplay revolves around navigating levels and defeating monsters that have infested an area. Nioh takes place in the early 1600s during a fictionalized version of the Sengoku period, when Japan was in the midst of civil war prior to the ascension of the Tokugawa shogunate.
A particularly important detail was noticeable in the trailer, despite its brevity: the blonde-haired Nioh protagonist William was nowhere to be seen. The only human character featured in the trailer was a wounded samurai with black hair, shown when his helmet was sheared off. This samurai, who was speared with two demon-like horns that he pulled from his head, appears to be the new protagonist. At least, that makes sense given the Nioh 2 logo features the two horns prominently. Will William remain in England for Nioh 2?
Team Ninja is on a roll at E3 2018. Nioh 2 is the second game in development from the Japanese studio, as over the weekend the latest Dead or Alive sequel was announced. If Team Nina shows up during Nintendo’s E3 2018 press conference on Tuesday morning to show off a new Warriors game akin to Hyrule or Fire Emblem Warriors, they’ll have one of the best line-ups of announcements for the convention this year.”
