Team Ninja releases a new gameplay trailer for Nioh 2 on the PS4 which reveals the Closed Alpha of the game. The trailer shows that the alpha demo will be playable between May 24 and June 2 exclusively on the PS4.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be available to ALL PlayStation 4 users as they announced on Twitter saying, “Some PS4 users are invited to take part in the Nioh 2 closed alpha to help gather for the development. To ensure the team can manage the feedback, there are no plans to expand the alpha at the moment, but please keep an eye on our channels for more info in the future.”
Clearly this is a strictly invitational beta which does mean that only some PS4 users will participate in the alpha. While there is no current information on what they mean by invitational and how people can start playing this Friday, the new trailer does reveal a few things gameplay-wise.
There are some new weapons added to the game including dual-axes and some sort of greatsword that you can parry with. It also seems that there are multiple characters to play this time, as you get a glimpse of playing as a shrine maiden fighting some demons.
After our protagonist is seen dying multiple times to various creatures, it’s revealed that one of the main features is the ability to be possessed by a spirit gaining its powers. In the trailer, it looks like you can have different spirits possess you for different forms. Similar to Devil May Cry’s Devil Trigger you can transform to an Oni to gain new moves and do massive damage.
While we don’t know too much about the game at the moment, Team Ninja will likely reveal more details either the 23rd or 24th before the closed alpha starts.
