Nioh will return to the PlayStation Network on Aug. 23 and remain available to the PS4 community until Sept. 6. Once the ten day window has ended, the Nioh servers will be shut down again and players will have to wait until the game’s retail debut before getting another chance to play. The beta will include an all-new tutorial level, designed to familiarize players with Nioh’s complex combat mechanics, and an unannounced area that will presumably be revealed a bit closer to next month’s test. We’ll also get our first look at more weapons being designed for the game, including axes, katanas and spears not featured in the Nioh alpha.

“The protagonist, William, is not alone against the perilous Yokai, as he will be accompanied by a diverse cast of characters who will aid him on his travels across Japan. Hanzo Hattori, the head of a famous ninja clan, is William’s guide through the country. Ginchiyo Tachibana (wife of Muneshige, the head of the Tachibana clan) will also help William on his quest with her skilled fighting abilities.”
